Facility Planning and Space Optimisation – Libraries, Galleries and Museums

Cultural organisations such as galleries, museums and libraries have a specific set of concerns and requirements when considering future moves and changes. MoveCorp’s thorough understanding of these environments allows it to assist the organisation in developing methodologies and facilities that are tailored to their unique needs. From storage to tracking, security to environmental control, MoveCorp can provide insights, innovation and efficiency to the operation and conservation of important repositories and collections.

MoveCorp has an exceptionally strong track-record in Library Planning, providing facility and collections support services to all state libraries and all major Australian and UK university libraries. MoveCorp analyses all aspects of the library and its service delivery to ensure effective integration of front of house, back of house and collections storage functions in the new facility, addressing the needs of the library today, tomorrow and in 10 years time.

Case Study: State Library

The State Library of South Australia takes this opportunity to acknowledge the significant contribution MoveCorp made to the successful completion of the $41.2 million State Library of South Australia Redevelopment – on time and on budget.

MoveCorp acted as principal consultant, as part of a large project team on the extensive and complex storage and relocation components. These included the design, arrangement and relocation of equipment, staff and office moves, the selection of new storage facilities for the full range of library collections on open and closed access, advising on environmental conditions for collection storage to recognised preservation standards, and integrating the reuse of storage equipment and facilities.

Over the nearly 4 years of the project 50 kilometres of collections were relocated three times and 150 staff twice; the bulk of the collections and staff remained onsite during the redevelopment. The success of these three manoeuvres, coordinated and managed by MoveCorp, allowed the Library to remain open and provide a service, with access to the collections throughout the building works.

MoveCorp’s approach is collaborative, responsive and consistent. They listen, advise and provide direction and leadership as needed.
